Let's get into my master suite closet plans & I'm going to walk you through how I created our Ikea custom closet. I'm hoping to update our builder grade closet to more functional space for the hubby & I. If you're visiting from Instagram, Facebook, or Youtube welcome! I'm so glad you're here. I wanted to share this closet design with you, once I got it completely looking the way I wanted, but in an effort to be completely honest - I decided to go ahead & share it! Now is as good of a time as ever; since truth be told, designers are perfectionists. One of the main reasons I decide to implement this design was because we had a bunch of wasted space & were in desperate need of organization. I thought if everything had a place it would look neat & cut our wardrobe planning time in half.
Let's be real... I can't stand laundry day (or days)! My problem is not washing the clothes, but folding them & with a family of seven laundry is never ending! Once the hubby & I folded our clothes we always ran out of places to put them!
TRANSPARENT MOMENT.... Take a peek into my life... before Marie Kondo & her book, "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing." You need this book in your life - ORDER IT NOW!
What ended up happening was; we'd put clean clothes wherever they could fit, which ended up being a chair, the top of the dresser or a bench in our room. I got sick and tired of seeing it & then watching the mess take turns jumping to the floor! What in the total heck... ?! The last straw was continually asking myself, ... "Is this clean?"

WHY YOU NEED A CUSTOM CLOSET
I realized fairly early on that our builder grade closet wasn't going to work for real life. Initially, I came up with a plan to build one myself, but during the process of drafting it I realized we had way more clothes than I thought! I created an online printable (you can download it for free) to do inventory of our closet .
Here are my preliminary sketches:
After toying with the idea of going custom, I deciding I didn't have the time to go that route. Then, the light bulb went off - I'd already designed what I wanted! I just needed someone to buy it from. I sourced countless solution options, but none allowed me complete design freedom like, IKEA. Since, I lived in an area that didn't think I needed direct access to walk aimlessly searching for design inspiration, I went online. The process was very easy for me because I'd pre-planned my design.
Here's a quick sneak peek of the plans. It may not look like much, but this was a major accomplishment & step into organizational bliss!
I added everything to my shopping cart & before I completed my coffee, I'd finished ordering my closet! Click, here to see what the rest of the space will look like & stay tuned to my Youtube Channel for my next Ikea Haul!
